Palisades Tahoe (previously known as Squaw Valley) opened its doors on Thanksgiving Day, 1949. Eleven years later it hosted the 1960 Winter Olympic Games where the first Men’s Olympic downhill competition was won on metal skis. It has 3,600 acres of skiable terrain with 29 lift systems, which include 22 chairlifts, 3 surface lifts, 2 magic carpets, 1 aerial tramway, and 1 funitel. Rocky Mountain Lift Services & Supplies Inc. and Rigging Specialties have worked with Palisades Tahoe since 2013 and since then have been contracted out by Doppelmayr USA to supervise the slipping of the track ropes, the exchange of the haul rope, and inspect the aerial support cables at the resort.
